Digfest: Grandview Celebration of Locally Crafted Beverages

Written by on June 8, 2011 in Beer, Events, Grandview Heights, Liquor, Wine - 17 Comments

A dozen businesses who brew, distill and ferment in Central Ohio will all be at one can’t-miss even for alcohol lovers: Digfest, taking place Saturday, June 18 from 5-10pm at the Grandview Yard.

The Digfest is a new celebration of local beverage producers, including micro-distilleries, micro-brewers and wineries. This first-time festival is presented by the Grandview Chamber of Commerce. “”Supporting local businesses is what we do every day, so why not build an event around that idea?” said Michelle Wilson, Executive Director of the Chamber. “[Locally-made alcohol] creates opportunities for partnerships between businesses, which in turn keeps the local economy strong and viable.”

Wilson says the Chamber intends to make this an annual event growing each year. And they’ve managed to get just about every local alcohol maker on the menu for this year:

Wine

Brother’s Drake (Columbus)
Buckeye Winery (Newark)
Camelot Cellars (Columbus)
Eldchrist Winery (Plain City)
Hidden Lakes Winery (Canal Winchester)
Signature Wines (Columbus)
Soine Vineyards (Powell)
Wyandotte Winery (Columbus)

Spirits

Middlewest Spirits
Watershed Distillery

Beer

Barley’s Brewing
Elevator Brewing
Hoster’s Brewing

Colin Gawal and The Lonely Bones and VUG will perform, and there will be food available from Buckeye Hall of Fame Cafe, Jason’s Deli, Leslie’s Creperie and Marshall’s Mobile.

The event is free to attend. Taste-sized portions of beverages will be available via $1 each tasting tickets. A VIP hour will be offered at 4pm for $10 per person which will give you an extra hour of tasting as well as a souvenir cup. VIP tickets are available at www.grandviewchamber.org or at the event.

I’ve never heard of Hoster’s so I’ll be looking forward to trying some brews from them along with the others.

I love the St. Joan’s at Barley’s Smokehouse on Riverside Drive, or their Russian Stout.

We’ve only been here a month, so interested in trying some local, especially wine. In New Jersey we hit all 32 wineries in the state in the first year we were there. Hoping to find some good ones here too.

I’m with the others on Hoster’s. Haven’t tried it yet. I’d also like to try out Signature Wines as I’ve heard some great things.

I’m looking forward to trying Four String Myopic Red by far the most. Not only because the company is local but the beer and the name of the beer have a thought put into them that most beers do not. To have an understanding that some Ohio State fans can be “near sighted” towards the whole sporting world is something that only a local would understand; also me being in optometry school the word MYOPIC is not one that the common public typically comes into contact with. They seem like a good company… look forward to trying them.
