Drunk Brunch: Third & Hollywood

Written by on November 7, 2012 in Grandview Heights - 2 Comments

We’ve been drunk brunching almost every weekend since July, and every weekend I think we’ve surely run out of places to go but I always manage to find at least one more. That said, if you have recommendations for future drunk brunching, let me know in the comments!

This weekend though I discovered that Grandview’s Third & Hollywood, one of my favorite dinner spots, serves brunch. We were greeted when we walked in by a live jazz trio in formal attire performing in the corner, and a lot of folks a little too finely dressed for noon on a Sunday. My “fancy brunch hoodie” felt a little out of place.

I opted to sip on a simple mimosa, but the freshly squeezed orange juice definitely made this the best mimosa I’ve ever had. My husband ordered the Fitzgerald, with Tanqueray gin, fresh lemon juice and cane syrup, which was simple but delicious. Other drinks to try include a Ginger Mojito with rum, fresh mint, ginger syrup and lime, or a Havana Sidecar (not specifically listed on the brunch menu but one of T&H’s featured cocktails) with 10 Cane Rum, Cointreau, lemon juice and cane sugar.

Third & Hollywood’s brunch menu includes mostly lunch options, and I know from past visits that the burger and chicken sandwich are delicious. There are only four of my preferred “breakfasty” brunch choices – Croque Madame (a fancy ham and cheese sammich with a fried egg on top), chorizo and eggs, a seasonal vegetable strada, and steak and eggs.

My husband went the steak and eggs route – tasty tender, thin-sliced beef tenderloin on toast, with scrambled eggs. I made up my own amazing entree by combining two appetizers – proscuitto-wrapped roasted dates with almonds and goat cheese, which were incredibly soft and rich, and an order of three flavorful, warm cheddar herb biscuits, which my husband swears “changed his life.” I guess they changed mine, too, because I’m actively trying to find an excuse to come back for dinner soon to eat them again (both appetizers are offered for dinner, too.)

Brunch at Third & Hollywood is served Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30am-3pm. Third & Hollywood is located at 1433 West Third Avenue (at the corner of Third and, uh, Hollywood.)
