The Daily Growler opens December 17

60 taps is a beautiful thing for any beer lover to behold. 60 taps within half a mile of my own house almost brought tears to my eye.

Those 60 taps are at The Daily Growler, a new bar and, obviously, growler store at 2812 Fishinger Road in Upper Arlington, in the same shopping plaza that houses My Big Fat Greek Kuzina and Ursus gift shop.

Owner John Blakely says they tentatively plan to have a soft opening for friends and Facebook fans on Friday, and will open to the public on Monday, December 17 at 3pm. When I stopped in, final construction was underway, with the bar top being sanded and prepped for staining. The bar area was spacious, with room for several tables and chairs. There’s also a large back room for private parties.

The Daily Growler plans to rotate the tap handles fairly frequently, at least at first, to assess the demand of different styles and price points. Among a wide range of styles from Belgians to IPAs to ciders, John plans to feature as many Ohio and West Coast (where he’s from) beers as possible. They will open with several seasonal selections, including CBC’s Winter Warmer, Thirsty Dog’s 12 Dogs of Christmas and Shiner Cheer. They also plan to have a root beer on tap at all times.

The price point for growler fills will range from $8-$30, depending on the style. Additionally, as the name suggests, there will be a Daily Growler, which will be offered at an extremely discounted price. Each growler will come with a tag identifying its contents by name, ABV and description, a useful touch for bringing a growler to a party, or even just purchasing multiple growlers for yourself.

The Daily Growler will offer drink-in patrons pints and five ounce tasting pours, and plans to offer flights of beer as well. They will also have happy hour seven days a week, the details of which are still being finalized but which will tentatively be 50% off pints and 10% off growlers.

In addition to stand alone growlers, The Daily Growler is selling “starter kits,” which include a TDG growler, two TDG pint glasses and a $20 gift card packaged in a neat little box for $29. While they will only be filling their own branded growlers, they will exchange any growler you bring in for an already sanitized and chilled growler.

The full initial lineup of breweries includes 5 Rabbit, Abita, Avery, Ballast Point, Bear Republic, Bells, Bison, Bitburger, Boulder, Breckenridge, Brew Kettle, Brooklyn, Buckeye Lake, CBC, Dogfish Head, Flying Dog, Founders, Four String, Great Divide, Great Lakes, Green Flash, Heavy Seas, Hoppin Frog, Iron Fist, La Chouffe, Lagunitas, Left Hand, Liljas, Magic Hat, Neil House, New Holland, North Coast, North Peak, Ommegang, Oscar Blues, Rivertown, Rodenbach, Rogue, Shiner, Six Point, Soudts, Southern Tier, Stillwater, Stone, Thirsty Dog, Troegs, Two Brothers, Victory and Weyerbacher.
