Screen Shot 2013-11-18 at 9.30.28 AMA new nanobrewery hopes to join the Columbus brewery scene by the end of the year with a little Kickstart from the community.

With federal and state brewing licenses in place and operations nearly ready to begin, Sideswipe Brewing has turned to the crowdfunding website Kickstarter to raise funds for finishing touches in the taproom.

“Few people realize the cost that goes into the addition of a tasting room,” reads the brewery’s Kickstarter page. “As craft beer enthusiasts know, there is something special about going to breweries, enjoying tastings and talking directly with brewers. A large part of this experience is having a number of great beers on tap and the serving area, all of this is a large expense to a brewer. Because Sideswipe Brewing supports the homebrewing community, we intend to offer beginner homebrewing classes and eventually more advance classes, both at a reasonable cost. Improving the brewery improves these classes and the service we can provide the community.”

Kickstarter rewards range from backer photos on the brewery wall up to a one-on-one brew day with Sidewswipe owner Craig O’Herron. You can support the project for as little as $1 on Kickstarter.

Sideswipe will brew on a five-barrel system and plans to offer its initial three beers – Elegant Hoodlum Smoke Stout, Fisticuffs IPA and Coop Looter Saision – in 22 oz. bottles at area bars, restaurants and retail stores.

Sideswipe Brewing is located at 2419 Scioto Harper Drive, just west of Grandview Heights.
