barleys brewingAngelo Signorino, brewmaster for Barley’s Ale House (and, incidentally, Smokehouse Brewing) is tapping into Uncharted Territory with a unique ongoing blended beer project.

Signorino is utilizing the solera aging of successively blending and intervally aging liquid, a process often seen with sherry, brandy and vinegar. Signorino is using it with beer, adding in new beers to bourbon barrels over time and calling it Uncharted Territory.

The first of the Uncharted Territory brews, Mark I, is a delicious blend of Barley’s strong scotch ale and imperial brown. Both Mark I and Mark II, the aforementioned two beers with added Hop Envy IPA, will be on tap tonight, June 20, at Barley’s Ale House.

Mark III, to be released in about a month, will add in Barley’s Belgian golden ale, and Mark IV will include Infinity Grand Cru.

Signorino says he plans to continue this until he “hits the wall,” and the beer is no longer quality.
