oloroso wheat whiskeyMiddle West Spirits is launching a new specialty Double Cask Collection series with the debut of OYO Oloroso Wheat Whiskey, a spirit nearly five years in the making.

Oloroso Wheat Whiskey is crafted from Ohio-grown soft red winter wheat and aged for several years in lightly toasted white American oak barrels, then transferred to sun-drenched Oloroso Sherry casks where the whiskey mellows for another 12-18 months. In a statement, Middle West Spirits co-owner Brady Konya described the resulting spirit as a smooth, complex wheat whiskey with subtle notes of cherry, dark chocolate and raisins.

Middle West Spirits is also introducing a new bottle silhouette for the Double Cask Collection limited edition series of whiskeys. The new glass profile is taller than Middle West’s traditional OYO packaging and pays homage to its Scotch-inspired origins.

Middle West will be pre-releasing signed Batch 001 bottles at the distillery’s bottle shop Friday, December 5 from 12-7pm. Bottles can be reserved for pick-up by calling the distillery at 614-299-2460. Additional limited inventory will be available at select state liquor agencies in Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati the week of December 8 for $79.95.
