When two six packs of a beer with the words Salted Caramel Brownie in the title and a Ben & Jerry’s cow on the front appeared in the Drink Up Columbus office, you can imagine our excitement. Of all the wonderful things you can mix with beer, ice cream and brownies might take the …uh… cake?
New Belgium released this latest collaboration, the Salted Caramel Brownie, in October. Both New Belgium and Ben & Jerry’s are B corporation companies so it was a natural fit when they joined forces to brew the beer and fight climate change. As a result of their collaboration, the beer is a vessel for raising awareness and funds for the global nonprofit Protect Our Winters to fight climate change.
Salted Caramel Brownie officially launches in Columbus this Friday, November 20, at a Pour Over Pairing event at The Flying Gent downtown. Guests can enjoy five New Belgium beers paired with classic Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavors like Chunky Monkey and Americone Dream as well as the collaboration Salted Caramel Brownie flavor. New Belgium and Ben & Jerry’s created the Pour Over Pairings event series to celebrate the new beer and continue raising awareness of their cause. This Friday’s event will feature live music from Mistar Anderson and an interactive art with Columbus artist Okpants.
The full menu for the event is:
New Belgium Beer | Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream |
Salted Caramel Brownie Brown Ale | Salted Caramel Brown-ie Ale |
Fat Tire Amber Ale | Chunky Monkey |
Ranger IPA | Americone Dream |
1554 Black Lager | Tonight Dough |
Accumulation White IPA | Strawberry Cheesecake |
This will be the second event New Belgium is throwing at The Flying Gent. The first was sort of a ‘trial run’ according to Ian Grzybowski, New Belgium’s Ohio Field Marketing Manager. The brewery hosted an after-party for their Clips, Beer and Film tour at the store in September. The store, Ian said, was a great example of what Columbus has to offer and was a great fit this second time around.
The Salted Caramel Brownie beer itself is a rich, chocolaty brown ale. The salted-caramel and vanilla flavors greets you like a chunk of caramel hiding in an ice cream Sunday. The event reached the initial cap of 200 people Tuesday evening, said Ian, but they’ve decided opened registration back up to 25 more people this morning. You can RSVP to be one of those 25 here. Don’t miss out!
