The new Hoof Hearted Brewery & Kitchen in Italian Village began brunch service a few weeks ago. While the Hoof Hearted bar does offer a full array of spirits and cocktails, beer is what you want here. Hoof Hearted’s Mom Jeans double milk stout might just be the perfect breakfast beer, rich and chocolatey with a hint of coffee and just begging to be paired with some pancakes. There are about a dozen dishes on Hoof Hearted’s brunch menu, including a bread board, biscuits and gravy, shrimp and grits and poppy seed pancakes. I went with the breakfast nachos, mostly because I had never heard of “breakfast nachos”, and now I’m wondering why breakfast nachos aren’t a thing?! This hearty pile was loaded with scrambled eggs, corn salsa, ground chuck and guac, with short rib, though admittedly a little less of that than I would have liked.
I followed up the nachos with a Mom Jeans DONUT – paired with another round of Mom Jeans milk stout, of course. The massive paczki-style pastry was fluffy and oozing with rich chocolate cream, a decadent end to a fart-filled feast.
Hoof Hearted Brewery & Kitchen is located at 850 N 4th Street. Brunch is offered Saturday and Sunday from 11am–3pm.
