Middle West Spirits has been hard at work for the past year renovating its Short North production facility and this weekend you’ll have a chance to preview the changes.

Middle West Spirits invested more than $3 million to update its distillery with an environmentally-friendly design that increases its production capacity more than 80 times. Three new specialty stills were installed to allow the company to expand production of vodka, whiskey and bourbon, while extending its portfolio into new categories like gin, brandy and rum. To make room for the enhancements, Middle West moved its barreling, storing, blending, water cutting and bottling operations out of the Short North and into a new 23,000 square-foot facility in Milo-Grogan.

This Saturday, September 3rd during the Short North Gallery Hop, Middle West will open their doors for a preview of the new distillery and bottle shop. Middle West will have OYO samples, snacks and giveaways throughout the event, which will take place from 5-9pm at the 1230 Cortland Avenue production distillery. The distillery and bottle shop will open to the public two weeks after the preview.

Middle West Spirits is also opening a new restaurant on-site called The Service Bar, though that won’t open until later this fall. The distillery has hired former Veritas Tavern chef Avishar Barua to run The Service Bar’s kitchen.
