If your love of local beer is matched by a love of local art, you’ll want to road trip to Mother Stewart’s Brewing in Springfield — about 45 minutes from downtown Columbus – on December 15th for an art glass auction.

The auction will feature work by Doug Frates, a Marine Corp vet turned glass artist who has been nationally recognized for his work. One of his most interesting works, an American flag made from glass, is currently on display at Mother Stewart’s. A companion piece is on display at the Pentagon in Washington DC — there’s even a picture on the web of Doug standing in front of that piece along with Secretary of Defense Robert Gates! Included in the dozens of works up for auction is a 27” x 40” version of these same flags. A portion of the pieces will be sold with live bidding, while the remainder will be via silent auction.

The event will also feature music from the jazz trio Crossover beginning at 7pm, with the auction starting at 8pm and music returning from 9-10pm. Free hors devours will be provided and, of course, a wide selection of Mother Stewart’s fine beers will be on tap. The auction will benefit the Miami Valley Young Marines and the Springfield Soup Kitchen. Good cause, good beer, great art work!

The auction will take place Thursday, December 15 beginning at 7pm at Mother Stewart’s Brewing, located at 198 W. North Street in Springfield, Ohio.
