four-string-brewing-coFour String Brewing Company today announced plans to build a new production brewery at 660 North Hague Avenue, expected to open in September. The 25,000 square foot building will triple Four String’s production, create 12 new jobs for the region and allow the brewing team to craft its beer for statewide distribution.

Located on the west side of the city, the new facility will include a 30-barrel brew house, a canning line, a sensory analysis laboratory and, eventually, will be home to a second taproom. Once the expansion is complete, the current brewery and taproom at 985 W 6th Ave will exclusively focus on the Solo Series, Four String’s small batch, seasonal and limited edition brews.

Heading up the new facility will be Brewmaster Larry Horwitz, a native of Columbus who is returning to his hometown with over 20 years of craft brewing experience. Horwitz acted as consultant for the original opening of Four String, and since 1992 has worked at various breweries around the United States including 12 years as regional brewer for Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant. A graduate of the MBAA Malting and Brewing Science Program and the American Brewer’s Guild Brewery Science and Engineering Program, Horwitz is a certified beer judge who teaches courses on brewing, judging beers, and sensory analysis. He serves on the Brewer’s Association Technical Committee and the Board of Governors for the Master Brewer’s Association of the Americas.

“I’m beyond excited to return to my hometown and work with Dan again,” said Horwitz in a prepared stagement. “This expansion will do more than just grow capacity, it will provide us the tools to make some of the highest quality beer in Ohio.”

In addition to taking on the role of brewmaster, Horwitz is becoming an official partner in Four String. Cochran shared this photo of himslef and Hortwitz signing their partnership agreement in Portland at the Craft Brewer’s Conference two weeks ago, with craft beer celebrity Sam Calgione of Dogfish Head signing as a witness.
