This is a guest post by George Adams. Current Student at The Ohio State University. From the great state of North Carolina. George enjoys a good craft beer and homebrewing. Great Minds Drink Alike.
Just north of Lane Avenue on High Street you’ll find a bar with crisp attitude. The Little Bar is a common campus watering hole and sure to raise a few glasses. For those who don’t prefer the Natty Light drinking college crowd, The Little bar may be more your taste.Upon walking into The Little Bar, you find out the bar isn’t actually “little.” Built like a mountain cabin, from the outside Little Bar isn’t as flashy as its down-the-road sister, Big Bar. Throughout the year, alumna and students converge on this bar like their second home because of their happy hour and, of course, craft beer selection.
Don’t misunderstand. The Little Bar isn’t a craft beer haven like the previous “stops” on our Campus Craft Beer Crawl, but while they don’t have a huge variety, Little Bar focuses its selection on seasonals. The Little Bar has 15 taps, which is a pretty big number unless you have three hands. And they are THE bar if you’re a Leinenkugel fan. Leinenkugel, from that state up northwest, Wisconsin, is showcased here more than any other brewery. With their regular lagers that are popular among college students, The Little Bar also makes sure their seasonals are on tap as well. Summer Shandy, Octoberfest, Fireside Nut Brown, and the 1888 Bock just to name a few.
Don’t like Leinenkugel? Ask about their bottled beer. Some popular brews are Great Lakes, Kentucky Bourbon Ale, Hoegaarden and Yuengling Black and Tan. Did I see fireworks? Maybe not, but they have different beer in all the time. Unlike those BIG bars, The Little Bar holds what it can and once football season is over, the crap taps are gone and craft beer for everyone! Current and/or previous drafts included Great Lakes, Kentucky Bourbon Ale, Dogfish Head, Heavy Seas (Clipper City Brewing), and of course more Leinenkugel.
As a campus bar, it’s no surprise that this is a bar for the students. Some specials are $2.50 Beer of the Month (It’s Leinenkugel right now) and $2 drafts and wells all day on Wednesday. Happy Hour ends at 7pm featuring $2 pints. If you’ve eaten at The Little bar, then you’ve probably had Domino’s or Champs (Formerly Wings & Brew Pizza). Since acquiring The Big Bar (Formerly Panini’s Bar & Grill), The Little Bar now has a full service kitchen at 13th and High. Order from their menu, and it’ll be delivered without the the credit card hassles. You can also bring your pup – The Little Bar is dog-friendly.
By the way, we’re still on a bar crawl and only here for a drink or two. Head to The Little Bar and enjoy one their domestic-hidden craft beers. Heads up, $3 Pinnacle drinks and there’s a Johnnie Walker Blue with your name on it. Only $37 per drink!
