Columbus’s latest brewpub, Goodwood Brewing, opened Monday, March 14 in the Arena District. Goodwood, you say? Well, it is actually Goodwood Brewing and Distilling. And, as General Manager, Mike Wilson, will tell you, when it comes to distilling, it is all about “the quality of the wood”: hence Goodwood.

Goodwood is located in the former Gordon Biersch Brewing location on North Front Street. The venue looks much the same, but the beers, food, and staffing are all new. Let’s start with the beer. This is Goodwood’s first location in Ohio. With several locations in Kentucky, and the main location in Louisville, the Columbus brewpub will serve both Louisville brewed and Columbus brewed beers. Several, flagship beers will be shipped in from Louisville, but the majority of the 12 taps will be locally brewed house beers. Garrett Knapik (from Restoration Brew Werx) will be firing up their 20-bbl. brewing system this week with his lineup of original recipes. First out of the fermenter will be “Perfect Opportunity”, a Hazy Pale Ale. And, given that their name is “Goodwood”, expect one of the taps to be pouring a barrel-aged beer. Wines and spirits will be available, including Goodwood Distillery spirits. As far as the food menu is concerned, it is described by Wilson as “Southern Classic that pares well with their beers”. Expect to find apps, wings, salads, burgers, sammies, main dishes, and desserts. Goodwood food is cooked from scratch, they smoke their own meats, and make their own beer-infused sauces. Finally, staffing, Wilson feels blessed that he has been able to put together an outstanding staff, both in the kitchen and behind the bar.

The overview is, Goodwood is a 14,000-sf brewpub with seating for 500. Described by Wilson as laid-back, family friendly, and dog friendly. An event space is available to groups free of charge!

Goodwood will have canned six-packs available for carry out and you will find them at local retailers as well. Hours are Sunday thru Thursday 11-11, and Saturday and Sunday 11-midnight. Goodwood is located at 401 N. Front Street in the Columbus Arena District.
