Spruce Campbells Brewing Launch Party and Album Release

A member of local band The Spruce Campbells and his roommate have been serving their homebrew creations to friends for months under the moniker “Spruce Campbells Brewing Company,” but now, utilizing equipment at Zauber Brewing, they are stepping up production and hosting a release party for their first beer (and first full-length album.)

There will be an early meet and greet with Jason Kusowski and Rick Durham from Spruce Campbells Brewing Company, as well as Geoff Towne from Zauber Brewing Company, starting at 8pm.

They will be serving their debut beer, “Frost Giant Pale Ale.” Jason describes the beer as a slightly different take on the pale ale: lighter in body but still packing a citrusy punch (thanks to the Pilsner malt and Falconer’s Flight hops). Working out of the same facility as Grandview local Zauber, SCBC also created an unintentional Zauber collaboration that they term a “hoppy accident.” I’ve had the concoction — SCBC’s West Coast hops in Z Beers’ blonde — and it’s a solid matchup. DuC’s Cheryl tried SCBC’s grapefruit IPA at an event last year and declared it “pretty damn tasty,” so it will be interesting to try Frost Giant.

Jason says that commercially available beer is still about a year out, but he plans to build hype a half barrel at a time through shows and parties. SCBC intends to keep brewing at the Zauber facility for the time being (and perhaps create some intentional collaborations), branching out on their own when the time is right.

Zauber will have a limited release Belgian IPA called “Berzerker” for the event.

The launch party will take place Saturday, June 9th at 10pm at Kobo – $5 cover. Beer will be $3.50 a pint for the first hour and $5 for the rest of the night. The first 100 people to come will get a free Spruce Campbells Brewing Company t-shirt or pint glass designed by local tattoo artist Ben Ervin. You can learn more and RSVP on Facebook.
