Delaware’s Old Dominion arrives in Ohio

Ohio beer drinkers have access to a new set of brews out of Delaware as the Old Dominion Brewing recently began distributing to the market.

Old Dominion, originally a DC-based brewery, was purchased by Fordham Brewing in 2007, and relocated to Dover, Delaware in 2009. Currently operating as the Fordham and Dominion Brewing Company, the two share a brewery but continue to make beer under separate brand names. Only the Dominion brews are available in Ohio – for now. Dominion sent Drink Up a few samples of their beers to try.

Dominion Oak Barrel Stout is dry-hopped with vanilla beans and toasted oak, which is extremely evident in the aroma. This beer was fairly heavily carbonated and thin for the style, and the flavor was weak coffee with a punch of sweet vanilla.

Morning Glory Espresso Stout poured inky black with a thin head. Packs a huge coffee aroma with hints of chocolate. Espresso flavor with nice roasted malt and chocolate notes. The 9% alcohol content is well hidden in this beer.

Double D Double IPA poured a deep orange-gold with a thick creamy head and a very citrusy and hoppy nose. This 10% ABV beer definitely has a strong alcohol taste and warming effect. Strong bubble gum flavor to this beer mixed with citrus.

I did enjoy that 2/3 Dominion beers prominently featured boobies on the label and, in the IPA’s case, name. Ah, boobies.

Old Dominion beers are available for on premise consumption in Central Ohio at Bodega, World of Beer, The Daily Growler and Old Bag of Nails Arlington, and off premise at Pace-High Carryout, Clintonville Market, Kenny Road Market, Barley Hopsters and Weiland’s Gourmet.
