The Cocktail Menu: The Sycamore

One step inside will give anyone the slightest rush of eccentricity and edgy attitudes on trend and on a high. The Sycamore, perfectly camouflaged at the corner of Sycamore and 6th, is nothing less of an experience waiting to happen. Over-crowded and over-energized, this spot has it all: the drinks, the décor and the people.

Somewhere between the upscale bar and down-to-earth atmosphere, The Sycamore is where the cool kids belong. The place is fierce and effortless, and its drinks worldly yet modest. The bartenders can take a fruity cocktail and make it dangerous, or create an unexpected twist with a classic concoction. After a short visit and a couple drinks, I can say that this German Village hot spot should be at the top of everyone’s list.

Café Negroni

Watershed Bourbon Barrel Gin, Campari, Dolin Sweet Vermouth
I’m no pyromaniac, but nothing adds flair to a drink like a garnish that has been lit on fire. The enriching bitterness finds no challenge in clinging on to the subtle citrus taste. The Café Negroni is for those looking for a lighter taste to a heavier drink. The mixture sweet, spicy and bitter awakens the senses and gives this drink a certain kind of dark glow. And a drifting aftertaste accompanies the fruity sips that come with time. Once again, patience proves is a virtue.

Cafe Negroni

A Trace of Manhattan

Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Carpano Antica, Five Spice Bitters
Smooth with a spike, bitter with some heat, and suddenly… warm and calming. A Trace of Manhattan’s wintery scent is nothing compared to what’s to come for this ahead-of-its-time drink. The only thing this combination of bourbon, Carpano Antica and a mix of spice bitters is missing is a second round. One sip goes through a cycle of all the flavors, textures and sensations you would expect. And the best part? The taste lingers like a friend who has overstayed his welcome. Slow sips are spicy, drawn-out sips are bold; I wouldn’t have it any other way.

A Trace of Manhattan

The Sycamore is a must-have experience for anyone who isn’t afraid of bold flavor. Complete with daring mixtures, this place is the hub of mystery and intrigue. In fact, the one mystery I’m still trying to solve is how I didn’t know about this restaurant before. A trip to The Sycamore is similar to a trip around the world; it enlightens you, it changes you and it has you eager to return time after time.
