Drunk Brunch: Bodega

columbus bodega brunchI hadn’t been back to Bodega since they reopened after remodeling earlier this year, but after learning they recently added brunch to the equation, I had the perfect reason to pay them a visit. The new space is much brigher, more open and modern, and welcomeing for the weekend warrior ready for day drinks.

Bodega is best known as a beer bar – regularly rated as one of the best in the city – so if hops get you happy you’ll want to enjoy a pint of whatever new brew is on tap. However, they also offer $5 OYO Bloody Marys, as well as a rotating seasonal cocktail menu. I tried the Maple Gin Fiz, which had Original Sin Cider, Ohio maple syrup and Watershed Bourbon-Barrel Gin. Didn’t really taste much besides gin with a hint of cider, but I love Watershed’s BBG so I didn’t mind. My man had the Honey Bear – OYO Honey Vanilla Vodka, ginger, mint and lime – very refreshing!

The brunch menu is super simple at only four selections: biscuits and gravy, chicken and waffles, The Knock Out (a waffle topped with eggs and bacon) and, most importantly, breakfast poutine. Deliciously seasoned fries topped with cheese burds, sausage gravy, bacon lardons and a fried egg. Absolutely delightful and impossible to finish. Will eat again.
