Smokehouse Brewing hires new head brewer

sam brewer smokehouseSmokehouse Brewing Company today announced that they have hired Sam Hickey as their new head brewer.

Hickey, who was raised locally in Dublin, most recently worked as the assistant brewer at Mystic Brewing in Massachusetts, where he was involved in the creation of many unique beers, including Mystic’s Great American Beer Festival gold medal winning beer, Vinland 2.

“We’re excited to utilize Sam’s experience and passion for craft beer to uphold the ales that have made us popular and also experiment with new brews,” said Lenny Kolada, owner of Smokehouse Brewing Company, in a statement. “Seventeen years ago we helped to invent the craft beer scene here in Columbus, and today we continue to innovate within it.”

Hickey started at Smokehouse about two weeks ago. His first original creation since starting is a blended Belgian dark strong ale called Cloistered Shadow, which is currently on tap at the brewpub.
