Many neighborhoods in Columbus have embraced a brewery as part their local community, and Powell will be the latest to have the opportunity; Ill Mannered Brewing intends to open up this fall on Grace Drive in Powell.
“We saw a community that needed a brewery to call its own,” said Ill Mannered Brewing co-founder Brian Mathias. “Local residents and nearby businesses alike have been excited to hear about us and supportive of our plans.”
The three-barrel nano-brewery (that’s just six kegs per batch) plans to utilize their small scale to be flexible in offerings, providing an ever-changing variety of beers.
“Our goal is to have a rotating tap lineup so there is something new every time you come to visit,” Mathias said. “Our plan is to open with five beers on tap that could range from a very drinkable blonde all the way up to a super hoppy Double IPA.”
This week the brewery received its federal brewing license. They are currently working on their taproom buildout, and will begin on the brewery construction in the next few weeks pending approval from the city. They expect construction to be completed by the end of June, and hope to be open by Labor Day. Ill Mannered will start by serving beer out of their taproom, with distribution to local restaurants and bars to follow.
Mathias is co-founding the operation with Greg Dannemiller, Ryan Romer-Jordan and Tom Ayers. Ill Mannered is an anagram of Dannemiller’s last name, and a description of “the coarse personality of another [co-founder],” the brewery’s announcement joked. The four are excited to be part of a booming craft beer community in Columbus.
“The craft brewery scene in central Ohio is robust and growing quickly and it’s starting to get the national attention it deserves,” Ayers said. “There are many breweries putting out amazing beers. We are excited to join the scene and help grow the market as it continues to expand. We’ve always heard how helpful and collaborative this community has been and even knowing that we’ve still been blown away by how supportive the other breweries have been.”
Ill Mannered Brewing Company will be located at 30 Grace Drive in Powell.
