Drinking to fight Hunger in Columbus

food fightFOODFIGHT is an annual community-wide event to fight hunger in Columbus. It benefits local families struggling to afford groceries thought Operation Feed of the Mid-Ohio Foodbank. Now in its seventh year, FOODFIGHT hopes to beat its 138,000 meal mark from last year by involving 170 bars, restaurants and food trucks across central Ohio–and it’s calling on our drinking habits.

The event officially begins today — Tuesday June 23 — with a food truck food fight from 11am-2pm at the Columbus Commons where seven local food trucks will “battle” it out in a charity-driven lunch frenzy.  The FOODFIGHT will continue into Wednesday with the bar and restaurant portion, which is where our interest gets piqued. 5% of your total check at any participating establishment will go to help a local family in need. Lucky for us, participating bars and restaurants happens to include some of our favorite local breweries and cocktail places.

If you’re in the mood for beer, stop by Bodega, CBC Restaurant, Wolf’s Ridge, North High, Land Grant or Seventh Son for a couple of pints. It doesn’t stop at beer, however. Harvest, Tip Top Kitchen & Cocktails, Denmark on High and Strongwater, some of the best destinations for craft cocktails in the city, are on the list as well.

If you’re more into the dive-bar scene, Oddfellows Liquor Bar of the Short North and Club 185 in German Village have unique vibes and fun service teams. The Wine Bistro will also be participating at each of its four locations in Clintonville, Westerville, Worthington and Upper Arlington. For more drinking (and eating) options on Wednesday, check out the full list of participating venues.
