There’s a new player in town — or rather, six. Next week, the Columbus bar arcade population will nearly double as six new bar arcades open.
“As with all good games, the more the merrier,” said Dash Levitant, owner of new bar and arcade Plus One Life, one of the new bars, which will be located above Elevator Brewing and accessible only via a secret escalator (not elevator, surprisingly.)
Another new concept, Green Diamond, located in the basement of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, is a Sims themed Internet cafe. The only spirit available is neon green absinthe so visitors are promised to leave speaking Simlish. Jowlenin!
Grand Tapped Auto, located next to the BMV on Kenny Road, offers over 200 different craft beers on tap. About 150 of the tap handles will be devoted to IPAs.
Blue Shell is a Mario Kart-themed bar with no barstools or booths. Instead, seating is comprised entirely of vintage go-karts, to give a realistic experience to the classic racing game — which is available on every platform from Super Nintendo trough Wii U. Blue Shell is located just off the new Rainbow Road exit on 315.
Call of Daiquiri caters to fans of both sugary sweet rum drinks and first-person war games. Location is confidential information.
Joystick, located next to Brother’s, lets guests toggle with each other while enjoying craft cocktails.
Owners of the businesses do not see supply competing with demand.
“There’s no such thing as oversaturation,” said Jimbo G. Buckereno, owner of Grand Tapped Auto. “My dream, the American Dream, is an arcade-themed bar on every street corner.”
America will certainly soon follow the lead of Ohio with spacious tokens, amber waves of ale and two player majesties.
