A small batch of historic Hoster Brewing Gold Top beer will be tapped this week in honor of Columbus Craft Beer Week.
Hoster, which was founded in 1836, was the largest brewery in Columbus but closed when Prohibition took effect. The brand was revitalized in the 1990s but fizzled out a few years ago, though plans are in the works to bring it back for good.
A small batch of Hoster’s Gold Top was brewed on Temperance Row’s brewing equipment for Columbus Craft Beer Week, and will be available at The Golf Depot in Gahanna, The Ohio Taproom in Grandview and Temperance Row in Westerville.
Hoster Gold Top will also be available at the almost-sold-out Craft Beer Pioneer panel we are hosting during beer week featuring Hoster’s brewmaster, Victor Ecimovich.
Hoster Gold Top is a Dortmunder style lager. The brewery describes is as pouring with a clear golden copper color and a frothy white head, with an aroma of bright grain scent with a touch of malt sweetness, and a toasty flavor combined with a malty sweetness.
This is the first release from the iconic central Ohio brewery this year, signaling the beginning of market reentry by Columbus’ original craft brewery. You can read more about Hoster’s planned revitalization from the Dispatch.
UPDATE: The media advisory originally released by the brewery stated the beer would hit the aforementioned locations on Tuesday, May 17 after 3pm, but the brewery has since informed us they are now uncertain of when it will be delivered this week.
