Soon visitors of the North Market will be able to enjoy a glass of beer or wine while savoring the shopping and dining options that the Market has to offer.
Thanks to “Sip and Stroll” legislation recently passed by the Ohio General Assembly, North Market patrons will be able to drink alcohol throughout the Market, previously restricted only to the Barrel and Bottle retail space except for during specially permitted events. That same bill — House Bill 37 — has received much media attention locally, though for different reasons, as it is the same bill that eliminates the former 12% ABV cap on beer in Ohio, which takes effect August 31. The ABV provision was an amendment to the bill original introduced for “sip and stroll” at designated markets, specifically the North Market.
“We are grateful for this groundbreaking legislation that will enhance the already lively experience that is Central Ohio’s authentic public market,” said North Market Executive Director Rick Harrison Wolfe in a statement. “Sip and Stroll will bring new customers, new shoppers and new energy to the market.”
Shoppers will be welcomed to take products from the Barrel and Bottle store anywhere within the Market, as well as to the outdoor seating area on the east side on the building.
The Market will kick off Sip and Stroll on September 2 with its first “Happiest of Hours” from 4-7pm featuring entertainment and specials on food and beverages. The celebration will continue every Tuesday-Friday from 4-7pm throughout the month of September.
The North Market is located at 59 Spruce Street.
