The explosive growth of craft breweries in Licking County took another step forward on September 15 with the grand opening of Galena Brewing Company, but don’t be fooled by the name — the brewery is not in Galena, it’s actually 12 miles down the road in Johnstown.
Owners Walt Chrysler and Brad McCleary have spent the last 18 months working on recipes for their launch lineup which is chock full of movie references: Stay Golden Pony Boy blonde ale, Frank the Tank Russian stout, Shenanigans wheat ale, McLovin pineapple pale ale, The Dude IPA, Baby in a Bar milkshake IPA, Motorboatin’ SOB hazy IPA and Buzz the Tower Imperial IPA.
“We’re not married to these recipes,” said Chrysler. “We will continue to tweak them based on feedback from our customers.”
The taproom and brewery are located in the former Goodies Frozen Yogurt Shop on State Route 62. The brewery is equipped with 2-bbl and ½-bbl brewing systems and supporting nine fermenters.
The 18-seat taproom features eight taps is open Fridays from 5-9pm and Saturdays from 12-8pm. Galena Brewing is located at 129 E. Coshocton Street.
