Take a moment to appreciate your firsts: first kiss, first taste, first love, first time. First favorite drink? That’s easy for me. Vodka and Grapefruit, ice, sprinkle of salt.

As a child I grew up splitting grapefruits with my mom. We would dust each half with salt and indulge in the tartness of the fruit, mellowed out by the salty garnish. Is it really a surprise that as I matured (and acquired an affinity to vodka), I fell head over heels with a concoction that Surly Girl Saloon has named the Salty Wench?

The Salty Wench is, in my opinion, simple cocktail perfection. It’s cool, refreshing, crisp, and crave-worthy (throw in any adjective here that describes “awesome” and I’ll agree). It gracefully compliments Surly Girl’s most updated cocktail list, which offers my second-favorite Surly cocktail, the BFF. Cucumber-infused peach vodka with a splash of soda makes the BFF the ideal summer cocktail. For a girl that likes to hang with the boys at the bar, the BFF is a nice light change to the dark and mysterious whiskey drink that warms so many during the winter.

Also featured on Surly Girl’s spring drink menu is the ageless classic Cougar Water, a mix of peach vodka and iced tea, which will take your mood from overcast to poolside in one sip. The Surly Colada is a creamy coconut blend of vodka, rum, and pineapple juice (tastes like Hawaii), and the Lovely Lavender Lemonade puts a sassy spin on an old summertime favorite. (Lavender is a mood enhancer, right? Or is that the vodka?)

Surly Girl Saloon, like the Salty Wench, is my favorite. Sunday morning brunch with Bam Bam shaking up a soothing Bloody Mary, Comedy Night Open Mic with Sean Somerville (and lots of PBR tall-boys) every Wednesday, and an extensive beer list featuring seasonal and local brews are just a few reasons why you should head to Surly Girl Saloon immediately. Expect a unique and affordable food menu (which caters to the Veg Heads), a couple of bearded bartenders, great music, and an ambiance you cannot find anywhere else. Surly Girl is sassy, sexy, and worthy of your love.
