Everyone loves movies! And if you’re browsing Drink Up Columbus, you probably are a fan of alcohol as well. When you bring those two forces together, it’s destined for success.
Studio 35 is Columbus’ oldest independent cinema and draft house. It was actually the first cinema in the United States to obtain a license to serve beer. The theater is now also able to serve cocktails and wine to accompany their mix of new movies and classic films.
Co-owner Rita Brembeck said that the idea for combined movie and beer tasting events first came up a few years ago, just after they purchased the theater. “We had been doing “dinner & a movie” but then had the idea of showcasing all of the great brews that we have on tap,” said Brembeck.
The tastings typically include 10 pours (3 to 5 oz) of the featured beers while a local brewmaster or a beer rep discusses each of the beers being sampled. Some of the brewmasters who have attended in the past include Eric Bean of Columbus Brewing Company and Larry Bell of Bell’s Brewery. “We also occasionally do giveaways and play fun video clips until the tasting is over & the movie begins,” said Brembeck.
The next Studio 35 beer tasting-movie event is on Sunday, May 1. It features Rogue Beers and the Muppet Movie. They will offer ten Rogue beers during the tasting portion from 3 to 5pm, and the movie will start at 5pm. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the box office or at the Studio 35 webpage.

Thanks for the great write-up! Hope you were able to make it for today’s tasting. People were loving the ROGUE beers. We’ll have another tasting at the end of the month with The Hangover 2!
Keep me posted on that Hangover 2 tasting! If the sequel is even half as good as the original, it’ll be a blast!
