Crowdfunding is the thing to do if you want to start a brewery in Columbus this year.
Bru, the brew-on-premises biz that’s opening soon in the Short North, recently launched a campaign on UFunded. You may recall that Oval Brewing succesfully completed a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign earlier this year, while Seventh Son still has a few weeks left to get over $18k in their own fundraising campaign.
UFunded is a new crowdfunding website that leverages the affinity alumni have for their alma maters to help entrepreneur alum raise capital. Bru has already surpassed their fundraising goal… which was only $1k (designated for a street sign.) This seems to be more of a cross-promotional opportunity than a genuine attempt to procure capital – crowdfunding is becoming just as popular as a marketing tool as it is for fundraising.
BUT, if you want to get some Bru swag, like a t-shirt or a pint glass set, or if you want to pre-order your brew-your-own-beer session, or if you just want to support a new local business, you can donate here til July 28. (And yes, despite the core premise of UFunded, you can donate even if you didn’t go to OSU.)
