The winners of the 2012 Ohio Wine Competition were recently announced. The judging took place at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in early May. Of 268 entries, 190 medals were awarded.
Columbus wineries Camelot Cellars, Soine Vineyards and Wyandotte Winery each earned medals for their wine. Camelot was awarded silver medals for their Grenache/Syrah/Mourvedre and Blackberry Port, and bronze medals for their Barolo, Peach Ice Wine and Chocolate Raspberry Port. Soine was awarded a bronze medal for their Fusion. Wyandotte was awarded bronze medals for their Chardonnay and Seyval.
Ohio is the fourth largest wine producing state in the eastern United States, boasting 165 wineries and over 1,600 acres of vineyards, though some Ohio wineries, like Camelot Cellars, do not grow grapes and instead source them from vineyeards around the world to create wine locally.

For the uninitiated, NV stands for “non-vintage” and denotes a wine that is a blend of grapes from two or more years.
