hoof hearted cultriderHoof Hearted Brewing has collaborated with local psychedelic rock band EYE to brew a beer that is sure to rock all of your senses.

“A couple of our beers were already inspired by heavy metal music but we wanted to take it a step further and work directly with a band that we really admired,” said Williams.

Williams describes the band as “Pink Floyd meets Black Sabbath – epic aural sagas that could be the perfect score for a sci-fi or fantasy film.”

Here’s a 20 minute clip of the band in the studio that pretty well backs that description:

“EYE’s bass player Matt Bailey went to High School with us and was an early fan of our beers,” said Williams. “I reached out to Matt with the idea of us creating a beer based on the vibe of one of their songs and as luck would have have it they had just finished recording a new album. We decided on the song Cultrider because it’s a pounding yet complex song and let’s face it the title sounds badass.”

Hoof Hearted met up with the band to decide on a style, then worked with them to brew the beer at their Marengo brewery.

“Cultrider Black Rye IPA drinks like a classic ’70s black light poster, sure it’s mostly black but there are a lot pinks, purples, and oranges,” said Williams. “We added Malted and Flaked Rye for spicy complexity & a rounded texture. The flavor and aroma are a bodacious meld of Chocolate, Tangerine, and the essence of Marijuana.”

Cultrider clocks in at 7.5 % ABV and 66 IBUs. Cultrider will be tapped this Saturday, October 26 at Ace of Cups during EYE’s record release party. The following week it will be available at The Ohio Taproom, The Daily Growler, Betty’s and others to be determined.

We had this at the brewery a couple weeks ago before the dry hop. Very solid black IPA then, probably out of this world post dry hop.
