condado margaritaTacos and tequila are a match made in heaven, and the new Short North restaurant Condado delivers both in a Day of the Dead-themed restaurant opening tonight, occupying the former Circus bar.

Tequila takes center stage on the drink menu, with 45 (45!) different varieties to choose from and even a handy guide explaining the differences between silver, gold, agave and other styles. Margaritas are available in strawberry, peach, blackberry, banana, mango, prickly pear, blood orange, pomegranate and kiwi flavors, with specialty creations and other cocktails offered as well.

Condado also has a surprisingly sizable and solid draft list – 24 craft beers are on tap tonight for the opening, including Hoppin’ Frog B.O.R.I.S. The Crusher, Ithaca Flower Power, Ommegang Abbey Ale and Thirsty Dog 12 Dogs of Christmas, plus another 40 beers in bottles and cans, including a few mexican beers.

You’ll place your food order via the paper order sheets and pencils serving as centerpieces for each table. Off the starter sheet, make sure to order your table some Blanco queso – it’s some of the best I’ve ever had. Chips and salsa are offered up in limitless quantities.

The possible taco combinations are endless. Start by choosing from one of five tortillas or a bowl, then pick a protein, toppings, cheese, salsa and sides. Overwhelmed by the possibilities? There’s a separate order sheet with eight pre-curated combinations.
