Smokehouse Brewing releasing pumpkin peach ale bottles

Remember this Super Bowl ad?

It cause a lot of commotion in the craft beer community when people first saw it. Smokehouse Brewing Company saw it and decided to brew a pumpkin peach ale, dubbed Fussy Sipper.

Their original plan was to ship their small batch of Fussy Sipper bottles to each of the Budweiser brewing plants, but legal requirements prohibit them from doing so. Instead, Smokehouse owner Lenny Kolada mailed a letter to Anheuser Busch CEO Thomas Santel inviting him to the Smokehouse to share a bottle.

The limited quantity of bottles — there are only 23 — will instead be released to the public on a first-come-first-served basis at 5pm on Tuesday, April 7. Bottles will retail for $10 and include a copy of the Anheuser Busch letter.

I got to try the beer last week – which I gotta admit, I was NOT expecting to enjoy – but it’s actually really good. If you’ve tried Smokehouse’s Death Trap Dubbel, you’ll recognize the base of the beer. Add to that some sweet peach on the nose and just a hint of vegetative pumpkin on the aftertaste. It’s definitely something I would sip… fussily, of course.

Ha! Just noticed that the Super Bowl commercial ran again during March Madness, sans any reference to “fussy” or pumpkin peach ale. Well done, craft beer community. Well done.
