The smell of new paint still lingers in the air at Lineage Brewing, which celebrated its soft opening last week on March 25. The Clintoville location seats about 60 people or so between bar and table seating. An open floor plan, wooden details and mix-matched chairs give a homey, welcoming feel to the space. Once an old car wash, there is plenty of natural light thanks to a roll-up garage door, said to be opened when the weather permits.
As of Sunday, Lineage had four beers on tap; a cream ale, british pale, berliner weisse and coconut porter. The staff suggested the Bricky Briffon british pale and Mike Drop coconut porter. The Bricky Briffon has a solid profile, offering enough hops to give a tiny kick of bitterness and a smooth, slightly malty finish. The Mike Drop is simply a good beer. It’s creamy and drinkable with slight, pleasing hints of the promised coconut. The beer board listed a few more beers coming down the pipes, including a West Coast IPA and Rye Am Pale Ale.
The drink board includes a limited selection of cocktails and wine, for the non-beer drinkers. The menu at Lineage Brewing is simple, complete with a couple of starters and four varieties of their “not-so-humble hand pies,” which Lineage describes as similar to an empanada or samosa. The hand pies cover a number of world-inspired flavors from the indian-style Bollywood, with garam masala and mint cilantro chutney for dipping to the French-feeling Guillotine, with duck-confit and a blueberry jam dipping sauce.
Overall, Lineage Brewing is a welcomed addition to the columbus beer scene and a definite plus for Clintonville. Lineage Brewing is located at 2971 N. High St.
