Columbus brewers, Columbus Young Professionals and The Golf Depot are pairing up for a Craft Beer Golf Series this summer. Starting June 20, different breweries will co-host events with CYP for a casual golf tournament and networking event at the Golf Depot in Gahanna.
A networking group, social club and volunteer organization, CYP hosts events throughout the year to bring the growing number of young professional in Columbus together. For the summer golf series, all are welcome to come explore the game of golf while mingling and networking with other Columbus professionals.
“It’s a social event just to kind of give our members access to local breweries that will be participating,” said Derek Grosso, President and CEO of the Columbus Young Professionals Club.
While actually playing golf is not required, scoring will be optional to encourage new and inexperienced golfers to participate. Attendees interested in golf have the option to use the 18-hole bent grass putting course, a nine-hole short course, a nine-hole championship course and the driving range–all while drinking Columbus craft beer.
Breweries have been selected for three of the four days of the series and one more is in the works. So far the schedule has Homestead Beer Co. kicking off the event on Saturday, June 20. Actual Brewing Co. will co-host on Saturday, July 18 followed by Four String Brewing on Saturday, August 22.
“It’s a relationship builder,” said Jordan Fromm of the Golf Depot. “We’re great friends with [Homestead Brewing], we always have their beer on tap at the golf course.”
The pairing of golf and local beer just made sense according to Fromm. Craft beer is booming in Columbus right now, bringing new brands and ideas to the city. This and the simple social fun of a beer tasting is complimentary to the business and social aspect of the game of golf, he said.
The event fee accounts for two 5oz. samplers of beer and any of the golf amenities. Additional pints will be sold for $5. RSVP for the first Craft Beer Golf Series on Sunday, May 24 here.
