Drunk Brunch: Condado Tacos

After its grand opening in the fall of 2014, Condado Tacos been growing in popularity in the Columbus taco scene thanks to fresh, real fruit juice margaritas and whopping portions of affordable food. In January, Condado launched a new brunch menu just begging me to head over for a tequila-filled Drunk Brunch.

The drink menu at Condado doesn’t differ much during brunch. On top of their regular drink menu, they offer a Bloody Maria made with tequila and garnished with the biggest hunk of cheddar that has ever been placed on a stick. (Note: there is no bacon on a stick anymore, as the menu advertises. *moment of silence*) Traditional Bloody Mary’s are also available, if that’s your thing. Not really feeling a Bloody Anyone, my boyfriend and I decided on a couple of noon-time margaritas.

While my boyfriend felt there was something amiss about them not offering mimosas, I found our blood orange and mango margaritas a perfect substitute. I see nothing wrong with a little tequila at “breakfast” time. In fact, I quite enjoyed it.

The brunch menu has a number of breakfast tacos including the Sweet Potato Pork Belly Hash Taco and Breakfast BLT Taco–my obvious choices because piggy meats are perfect. Beyond the tacos, there’s the biscuits and gravy bowl made with chorizo gravy and housemaid cheddar biscuits, pork and grits bowl featuring chipotle pulled BBQ pork and pickled cabbage, and Barney’s Packed Bowl with black beans, queso, pork belly, dirty sauce and corn salsa. All three bowls come with a fried egg piled somewhere on top.

In retrospect, I wish I had tried the Barney’s Packed Bowl as I immediately began drooling when it arrived at the table next to us but, after a couple minutes of vicarious consumption, I was more than happy to return to my pile of cheesy, pig-filled tacos.
