Thom had an inside track to being the Art Director for Hoof Hearted; he’s known owners Trevor Williams, Jared Bichon and Ryan Bichon since elementary school. But it was more than friendship that got Thom the job — he is an established artist who has done work for many local and national businesses.

Thom made the break from Westerville in 1999, moving to Philadelphia and embarking on a career in art and design. He is a self-taught artist who most typically works in whimsy; his art very much reflects his laid-back personality. Thom’s body of work includes designs, logos and artwork for the likes of Puma, Converse, Obey, and locally at Dirty Franks Hog Dog Palace, which is owned by his sister, Liz Lessner. His work has appeared in art shows across the country, has been featured in Rolling Stone and even starred in a music video.

Even with that national exposure, he still takes great pride in his work with his buddies at Hoof Hearted Brewing and feels “lucky to be a part of it all.” After Trevor brews a new beer and gives it a name, it’s turned over to Thom. He sometimes gets creative direction from the Hoof Hearted staff, but generally has complete artistic freedom and he’s batting a thousand in his designs.

Thom was at Hoof Hearted’s recent taproom soft opening, his caricatures lining the walls. He’s currently designing the art for the soon-to-open Hoof Hearted Brewery and Kitchen at Jeffery Park in the Italian Village neighborhood of Columbus. More of his work can be seen at thomlessner.com.
