Summer SessionSession beers were created for drinking the day away and it shall be so this Saturday in Grandview. The Grandview Craft Beer Alliance is celebrating all things 5% ABV and below with perhaps the largest lawn party you’ve ever been to.

The Summer Session takes place this weekend on August 22 from 3-7pm at the corner of Grandview and Goodale. Guests are encourage to bring blankets, lawn chairs, dogs, frisbees—you name it. There will be a DJ on site spinning vinyl, provided lawn games such as boccee and badminton and food from Matt the Millers Tavern, Por’ketta, ManBQue, Rime Time Pops and Market District Foodie Truck. The Daily Growler will also be serving up root beer floats.

Think Saturdays in college and then think better beer.

“Session beers are a trend that’s picking up now where people can appreciate having a few beers and not just getting drunk,” said Laura Oldham, co-founder of the Grandview Craft Beer Alliance.

Columbus breweries on the docket inclue Actual Brewing, Elevator, Seventh Son, Wolfs’ Ridge, Zauber Brewing, Homestead, Sideswipe, Four String, Zaftig, Barleys, Lineage, Land Grant, North High and Smokehouse Brewing. Also bringing low ABV brews are nearby breweries Rhinegeist, Warped Wing, Hairless Hare and Little Fish Brewing.

A full beer list can be seen below including a number of beers made exclusively for the Summer Session. This includes a few summery infusions from Four String like their hefeweizen infused with raspberries and grapefruit juice, and their Payback Pilsner with juniper berries, hibiscus flowers and lemon zest. Wolfs’ Ridge is paying homage to the ultimate summer time treat with a cask of creamsicle cream ale.

The beer list for Summer Session has evolved quite a bit since last year, including a wide variety of styles and flavor profiles.

“It’s been fun to watch beers come in because you can see how the breweries have matured,” said Oldham. “Last year we had a lot of session IPA’s, which is fine, but this year we have a lot more variety.”

Tickets to The Summer Session are $25 and include admission and beer samples. The festival encourages guests to bring whatever else they might want to be comfortable or to enjoy the day. Purchase them through The Summer Session website.
