Of the many benefits of drinking beer, you can now add empowering disadvantaged women and encouraging career development to the list. The young professional group Y.E.S! Columbus is hosting their annual Brewed for Success event on September 25 at Elevator Brewing Company as well as a pre-sale event tonight, September 10, at Lineage Brewing and an after-party at Wolf’s Ridge.
Y.E.S! Columbus is a volunteer branch of the Columbus-based organization Dress for Success that supports disadvantaged women across the globe grow economically independent by providing them with professional clothing, professional guidance and a support system to grow in the work force. Y.E.S! encouraged young women in business to get involved with volunteer and fundraising opportunities to support Dress for Success.
The Brewed for Success event will be held at the Elevator Brewing Company’s 13th Floor taproom with a live DJ, the standard beer offerings and a specialty beer cocktail. Tickets cost $30 through September 23 and bump up to $40 the day of the event. Each ticket gets you two beers or one beer cocktail, a pita from Pitabilities and entry to the silent auction.
The afterparty at Wolf’s Ridge brewing is open to all, even if you cannot attend the main event. $1 from every beer sold at Wolf’s Ridge will be donated to Y.E.S! Columbus.
Brewed for Success wasn’t always about the beer. The event was originally launched under a different name in 2013 but rebranded after seeing added interest in a beer-centered charity.
“…it just happened to be at Seventh Son, which ended up being a huge draw for the event,” said Jessica LaBarge, the program service coordinator at Dress for Success. “With all the breweries, everyone is so willing to support each other so the community aspect has been a huge pro.”
While the volunteer group is focused on supporting disadvantaged women, Brewed for Success hope to appeal a variety of individuals.
“We’re trying to drive less of the just women focus and reach out to the whole community, ” she said. “It will be a fun event for long time supporters and someone who might have never heard of us before.”
Pre-sale tickets are available for $25 at Lineage Brewing tonight from 6-8pm with additional entertainment and a raffle. Lineage will be tapping a cask of their Spaceship #6 IPA conditioned in American Oak for the happy hour.
Brewed for Success 2015 will take place from 7:30-10:30pm on September 25. Tickets are available for purchase online.
