Tour De Brew OneI won’t waste my time convincing you that beer and bikes are a natural pair or try to explain why for that matter – they just are. And if you’re a proud citizen of Columbus, you probably know that our city loves these two communities almost as much as it to loves to combine them. Join in another one of these brewzy fusions as local breweries team up with Tour de Brew next weekend in the fight for clean water.

Tour de Brew events take place in a number of cities across the U.S. to raise money for Water for Good and end the water crisis. The event will roll through Columbus next weekend on October 3, hitting up to six breweries in the fight for clean water.

“I think there is a natural connection to having clean water and the beverage industry,” said Adrienne Lane, Director of Development at Water for Good. “and even further the micro and craft industry really seems to have an interest in the community as far as having a philanthropic side to events.”

Participants in Tour de Brew can chose from a number of routes, depending on how many breweries you want to visit or how far you’re interested in riding. The longest route departs at 10:45 a.m. from Land-Grant and rides to Lineage, Actual, Seventh Son and back to Land-Grant for the after party. The medium length course goes from Land-Grant at 11:30 a.m. to Seventh Son, Zauber and back to Land-Grant. The short route will depart from Land-Grant at noon and ride to Lineage and Four String before heading back.

Tour De Brew Two - Ride braceletBasic registration costs $20 and gets you into the ride along with one beer pour and an event bracelet. As you fundraise or donate, your reward level increases. Each level comes with more beer pours and incentives such as a limited edition beer steins, raffle tickets and t-shirts. Breweries will have their standard taproom offerings available for bikers.

Raffle prizes includes a Pure Fix bicycle as well as items from sponsors such as REI. Participants can purchase raffle tickets and additional beer pours throughout the day regardless of their fundraising level.

“We like to explain that about every $5 provides one year of clean water, if that puts it into perspective from a fundraising standpoint,” said Adrienne. Water for Good provides access to clean water to countries in the Central African Republic by building wells, providing well maintenance and initiating new projects in agriculture to empower the community.
