North High brews beer for Bowie

StardustNext week North High Brewing will release Stardust to Stardust, a double IPA brewed in tribute to David Bowie, who passed away last month.

“David Bowie has always been ahead of the trends and an inspiration to people worldwide,” said North High Brewmaster Jason McKibben. “We love his music and play it all the time at the brewery. We felt this was our opportunity to brew a beer with hops that incorporate his love of space.”

Appropriately for Mr. Ziggy Stardust, the beer is brewed with Galaxy, Apollo and Comet hops, and, allegedly, actual stardust. North High claims to have tried to contact NASA to source the stardust, but when their call was not returned they instead “took matters into our own hands, developed a process which is pending patent approval, and that is all we can say at this time.” Huh?

Since according to Carl Sagan, we are all made of star stuff, we spent a few good minutes at the Drink Up Columbus office this morning inaccurately — hopefully? — speculating that the “stardust” in this brew is some sort of Soylent Green scenario. In reality, we’re guessing from the photo it’s just edible glitter. But who knows?!

Mysterious patent-pending stardust producing process aside, North High describes the beer as having intense grapefruit, orange, peach, and resinous bitterness flavors.

Stardust to Stardust will be available at North High’s taproom Friday night, all  weekend at Columbus Winter Beerfest and on tap at other area bars beginning next week.

I’m pretty sure there isn’t any more on the market right now due to a shortage on one of the hops
