Zaftig fermentersThe big beer-loving Zaftig Brewing Company is getting bigger itself, with the grand opening for Zaftig’s new brewery and taproom slated for the end of May.

The new brewery is located at 7020a Huntley Road, about a quarter mile from their current location at 545 Schrock Road. The space totals 6,500 square feet, with a 1,500 square foot taproom that will feature a stage and gaming area. The rest of the space houses Zaftig’s new 15-barrel brewhouse and five new 20-barrel fermenters, and the brewery is planning to order a few additional 30-barrel fermenters later this summer. Zaftig had previously been brewing on a small 3-barrel system.

“The expansion was part of our original business plan,” said Zaftig co-owner Jim Gokenbach. “Start out small to kind of see what we have, and if it is well-received, take the proper steps to make sure more people can enjoy our high gravity beers.”

May 7 will be the last day of taproom hours for Zaftig’s Schrock Road space. The soft opening for the new brewery will begin Wednesday May 18 from 4-9pm, with additional soft opening hours on Thursday May 19 from 4-9pm and Friday May 20 from 4-10pm.

The brewery’s grand opening will take place Saturday, May 21 from 12-10pm featuring the Challah! food truck and special beer releases including Barrel-Aged Too Cans IPA, Maple Syrup Bourbon Barrel-Aged Nuttn 2it Nut Brown Ale and more to be announced.

“We feel like we have built out a great space where adults can come and enjoy craft beer with their friends, and also have an experience for families,” said Gokenbach. “We will have skill games such as darts and shuffle board available, and our customers will have the option to order food from some local restaurants, or enjoy food trucks on a regular basis.”

The new Zaftig taproom will be open Wednesday 4-9pm, Thursday 4-9pm, Friday 4-10pm, Saturday 12-10pm and Sunday 11-5pm.
