The first ever Columbus Beer Run is, as co-founder Will Haynes says, “for runners who like to drink and drinkers who like to run. And really everyone in between.”

Set to take place August 20, starting at Land-Grant Brewing, the run will consist of four laps — just under a 5k — around Franklinton.

After each lap, participants can redeem a drink voucher for a craft beer sample. Each sample will be of a different craft beer. Although Land-Grant is the host, other breweries will have options available.

“We love Columbus beer, so we’re choosing the dream team of beers to make available,” Haynes said.

When all four laps are completed, participants receive the ultimate reward of a pint of their favorite craft beer.

“People will walk, run, jump, skip and do cartwheels,” Haynes said. “The focus is on having fun. We’re not timing them, it’s just to get the community together.”

An after-party consisting of a DJ, food trucks and more beer follows. Costumes are very much encouraged as the best ones will be rewarded. One prize in the costume contest includes a free ride from the Columbus Pedal Wagon.

In order to facilitate group costumes, groups of four are able to purchase a package that includes each participant an extra pint of beer for the same price.

“I hope we see some Avengers,” Haynes laughed.

Haynes and his co-founders have worked for other local festivals and were inspired by their humble roots to start a festival of their own.

“We are huge advocates of volunteering and being part of events in the city such as Com Fest and Independent’s Day,” he said.

Haynes also noted that Columbus is a big city for both craft beer and fitness.

“We’ve also been involved in running events,” he said. “Given, we put more practice into our drinking than our running.”

Registration starts at 11 a.m. on August 20 with the race starting at noon. Regular admission is $52.69, designated driver admission is $36.86 and admission to just the after-party is $11.54, all fees included. You can take $5 off registration with the code “drinkup” and $20 off group tickets with code “drink4more”. Participants must register by August 10 to receive a T-shirt.
