Rockmill Brewery’s new Brewery District restaurant and bar, Rockmill Tavern, recently rolled out brunch service, and as an avid admirer of Rockmill’s beers and the new restaurant’s cheddar biscuits (just ask Jim Ellison) I was eager to try it out.
In addition to their full lineup of Belgian brews, Rockmill serves up four specialty brunch cocktails: a Bloody Mary, mimosa, Beermosa and Morning Manhattan (Bulleit bourbon, coffee cordial, Averna Amaro). I enjoyed one of the Beermosas, which is made with Le Chavel Farmhouse Ale, Pamplemousse Liqueur and grapefruit juice. My date tried the Bloody Mary, which comes adorned with a ham, cheddar and pepper skewer and is served with a sidecar of Rockmill’s Rugged Expanse stout.
Rockmill’s brunch menu is small but full of tempting options like short rib hash, chilaquiles, and french toast. Of course I had to order the Egg in a Biscuit, soft egg with hollandaise served in two of my beloved biscuits, which was delicious but not terribly filling, so we rounded out the meal with a side order of cornmeal fried cheese curds dunked in maple syrup. This is a brunch for which I will definitely be back.
Brunch at Rockmill Tavern is served Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-2pm. Rockmill Tavern is located at 503 South Front Street in the Brewery District.
full disclosure: the Brewery District Trade Association (of which Rockmill is a member) is a client
