I’m not sure where the “branch” in new Short North restaurant Biscuit & Branch’s name comes from*, but after devouring several of the biscuits at the new all-day-breakfast bar on Sunday I can see why they are worthy of the top billing.
*UPDATE: it’s a whiskey reference!
The new restaurant has been open about a month in the Short North in the space previously home to the Collection European Furniture store. When I visited over the unseasonably warm weekend, the “new” appeal was still in full swing with a 45 minute wait for a table. Fortunately the swanky greyscale venue is outfitted with a fairly large rectangular bar with plenty of first-come seating and we were able to saddle up right away.
In addition to about a dozen always-available cocktails, B&B has a weekend-only brunch cocktail menu (available all day Saturday and Sunday) with three bloody marys (spicy, non-spicy, bourbon) and three specialty concoctions. They even offer mimosa bottle service — pick your bottle of bubbles ($34-$47) accompanied by seasonal juices, purees and garnishes. I tried one of the specialty drinks, the 614 Refresher: PineFin pineapple vodka, OYO Stone Fruit vodka, orange juice and ginger beer. Light, fruity and refreshing.
About a dozen dishes comprise the all-day breakfast menu, half of which showcase the namesake biscuit. I stuffed my face with “Paul’s Nasty,” a buttermilk biscuit topped with spicy fried chicken, sausage gravy, and Tillamook reserve cheddar. Definitely not nasty, though way more food than I could conquer.
Breakfast at Biscuit & Branch is available all day: Tuesday-Thursday from 11am-10pm, Friday from 11am-11pm, Saturday from 10am-11pm and Sunday from 10am-9pm. Biscuit & Branch is located at 685 N High Street in the Short North.

Someone writing under the name Drink Up should know enough about alcohol to know the term branch is used in southern cultures to describe water used in the distillation of bourbon. Branch means stream or creek. Bourbon distilleries take great pride in their water sources.
Ordering a bourbon and branch is a way to say bourbon and plain water, but in this case the owners of the restaurant are simply using it to mean whiskey.
Also, this place can’t correctly fry an egg to order. We sent ours back twice.
Thank you for enlightening me 🙂
