Westerville welcomes The Draft Room

A new beer bar is heading to the former headquarters of prohibition, with The Draft Room slated to open Monday, September 25 in Westerville.

Owner Nick Baker signed the lease on the space in early 2016 only to find out that it, as with every address in Westerville, is designated “dry” until receiving voter approval. He acquired enough signatures to get on the November ballot and got the go-ahead to move forward.

Baker’s background in horticulture is evident with the abundance of plant life outfitting the 2,300 square foot bar, which also offers crowlers (sealed 32-ounce aluminum can “growlers”) and coolers of to-go beer.

“It’s the best possible thing,” said Baker. “You can come in and get a six pack and go home, or you can come in and sit and drink a beer and then get a six pack or crowler to-go. It just seems convenient.”

Behind the bar are 24 taps, one dedicated to nitro beer and one to nitro coffee. The Draft Room also has a full liquor license with an emphasis on bourbons, and is working on creating a signature cocktail menu. Snacks from local companies like CaJohn’s and Krema will be available for purchase, but customers are welcome to bring in outside food as well.

The Draft Room will be open weekdays from noon until 10pm and from noon until at least 11pm on weekends. The Draft Room is located at 570 Schrock Rd in Westerville.
