BLunch opened late last year and I avoided it for several months because the word “blunch” sounds like an onomatopoeia for barfing and subsequently it makes me kind of nauseated.
Fortunately, the food does not. It’s actually really good. Just please don’t make me say the name, ok?
The bright, inviting Clintonville café features colorful accents and wall murals painted by local artists. Fresh complimentary coffee from Luck Bros is situated immediately inside the entrance for guests to enjoy while they wait for a table or seat at the bar.
Eight cocktails comprise bar-who-must-not-be-named’s brunch drink list along with a few local draft beers. In addition to the standard mimosa and bloody mary, the bar offers a cherry bellini, orange or grapefruit crush (with vodka, triple sec and soda), Aperol Spritz, Vesper Cocktail, Apple Comfort, and Breakfast Manhattan. Cocktails range from $8-$11.
Four appetizers are offered to get you started: Italian donuts, bacon on a stick, deviled eggs, and a pancake flight. For the main course, pretty much every standard egg dish, griddle sweet and sandwich selection you can think of is offered. I tried the breakfast club ($9.50) with cheddar, bacon, ham, tomato, lettuce and cajunnaise on white toast. This delicious cheesy sammy was so masssive that I took half of it home (to a very happy husband.) My BLunch compatriot had the corned beef hash — an especially appropriate choice since it was St. Patrick’s Day.
Brunch at *gulp* BLunch is available Monday–Friday from 7am-2pm, and Saturday-Sunday from 7:30am to 2:30pm. BLunch is located at 2973 N High Street in Clintonville.
