Beer Week Breakdown: Editor’s Picks

The fourth annual Columbus Craft Beer Week is coming up May 11-19! Every day this week we’ll be breaking down the Best of Beer Week so you can set your sud-soaked schedule early and snag a spot at ticketed events before they sell out. Up next: my picks! I selected two events for each day, the ones I think sound the most fun, unique, delicious or otherwise can’t-miss.

3rd Annual Infusapalooza
Friday, May 11, 4-11pm
The Daily Growler – UA
TDG has rounded up almost two dozen one-of-a-kind infused beers from breweries across the state, with unique offerings like Millersburg’s Rum Barrel Aged Pina Colada Cream Ale; Hoof Hearted’s C+ DIPA with milk sugar and Vanilla; and Barley’s Breakfast of Conquerers coffee and maple infused barrel aged imperial stout. The Taquitos food truck will be serving from 5-9.

Science on Tap
Friday, May 11, 6-10pm
COSI is a magical place, especially when you remove the kids from the equation. Sample beer and spirits from across the state and geek out with experts from the breweries and distilleries to build your knowledge base. Plus, explore the rest of COSI with 300 hands-on activities.

Barrel Aged Mini Fest No 1
Saturday, May 11, 11am-11pmpm
Winking Lizard Grandview
It’s like Winking Lizard’s annual Barrel Aged Beer Fest, only smaller. This one will feature barrel aged drafts including Sierra Nevada BA Scotch Ale, Founders Doom BA Imperial IPA and more.

Six One Pour: The Ohio Craft Beer Fest
Saturday, May 12, 6-10pm
Huntington Park
The signature event of Columbus Craft Beer Week is definitely one you won’t want to miss. Try over 150 beers from 55 Ohio breweries.
Cost: $45-$55, tickets available online

Beer Class: All About IPAs
Sunday, May 13, 10am-2pm
Wolf’s Ridge Brewing
You drink enough of ’em, you might as well learn about ’em. Wolf’s Ridge is hosting a beer class highlighting their history, flavor and aromatic attributes of India Pale Ales as well as the many variants that represent the style.
Cost: $27.90, tickets available online

Cheesecake & Beer Pairing
Sunday, May 13, 1-4pm
Ill Mannered Brewing
There are some people who think that beer doesn’t go well with desserts. Those people are terrible people. Try a flight of five mini cheesecakes from Sam The Cheesecake Girl paired with five Ill Mannered beers for $20.

Drink Up Columbus 7 Year Anniversary Party
Monday, May 14, 6-9pm
Barley’s Brewing Company
Did you think I was above shameless self promotion? Oh, you. Join us for OUR Beer Week event celebrating seven years of booze news from Drink Up Columbus.
Cost: $25, tickets available online

Bluegrass Monday with Ballast Point
Monday, May 14, 6-9pm
Woodlands Tavern
I know we’re, like, supposed to hate Ballast Point since they sold to Constellation Brands but guys, I really, really like Sculpin. Also, I’d sell out for a billion bucks, too. Woodlands will have 10 taps of Ballast Point beers while the Great Northern String Band jams on stage for a free show.

Ride The Elevator
Tuesday, May 15, 5:30-9pm
Elevator Brewing via Goodale Park
Who doesn’t like drinking for a good cause? Join Elevator’s eighth annual bike ride departing from Goodle Park at 6pm for a four-mile causal ride to Elevator where your $10 at-the-door contribution will benefit Yay Bikes! and Franklinton Cycle Works.

Rando Pint Glass Giveaway
Tuesday, May 15, 7-1-pm
The Daily Growler (all 3 locations)
How’s your glassware collection looking? Lacking? Head to any of the three Daily Growler’s for their annual Rando Pint Glass Giveaway. Every beer you buy will get you a random glass to take home.

Nina West’s Beertini Review
Wednesday, May 16, 8-10pm
Seventh Son Brewing
The ever fabulous Nina West is hanging at Seventh Son for a Beertini review show featuring OYO. Your suggested $20 donation at the door will benefit Kaleidoscope Youth Center.

Athens Yo
Wednesday, May 16, 5-10pm
The Ohio Taproom
There’s a ton of great beer coming out of Athens and thanks to The Ohio Taproom, Athens comes to Columbus with selections from Jackie O’s, Little Fish, Devil’s Kettle, West End Ciderhouse and Fifth Element Spirits.

Trapped at the Growler
Thursday, May 17, 7-11pm
The Daily Growler – German Village/Brewery District
My friends and I are escape room junkies. I can’t really explain the fun of hunting for the combination to a lock that opens a box that has… another lock in it… but it’s fun. Just trust me. The Daily Growler teamed up with Trapped Columbus to provide two short 30 minute escape room adventures, Crafted! and Sidekicked!, which will be offered every half hour.

Brews & Botanics
Thursday, May 17, 6:30-7:45pm
Endeavor Brewing Co
Create your own eye-popping succulent arrangement while enjoying Endeavor beers and learning all about the cute cacti you’re working with.

Hip-Hop Craft Beer Festival
Friday, May 18, 5-11pm
2000 S High
This is not your average beer fest. Seventh Son Brewing and the 2×2 Hip-Hop Festival have teamed up for Brews Over Beats with 20+ beers on tap from some of your favorite Ohio breweries and live hip-hop on stage.

Brew Dogs On The Big Screen
Friday, May 18, 7-11pm
DogTap Columbus
If you haven’t seen the TV show that made James Watt and Martin Dickie famous, there’s no better time to catch a few episodes of the ever informative and odd-ball adventure known as Brew Dogs than on the big screen at BrewDog’s Canal Winchester production brewery.

Summer Kickoff Pool Party
Saturday, May 19, 10am-8pm
Hoof Hearted Brewery & Kitchen
As a water lover, the pool at Hoof Hearted is one of my favorite “hidden” gems in Columbus. Although if I keep talking about it it won’t remain very hidden. Fuck. Enjoy some Hoof Hearted brews poolside for the first day of the season, weather permitting.

Digital Fest
Saturday, May 19, 12pm-12am
Actual Brewing
The geeks at Actual are celebrating digital influence in art, science, brewing and beyond. The taproom will be decked out to blend technology and their industrial aesthetic with a concert kicking off at 7:30pm with a $10 cover.
