Just in time for the return of Ohio State students, the campus World of Beer is re-opening today under a new moniker: The District PourHouse.
“We love WOB and think the World of Beer concept works — we still own the World of Beer at Easton and we’ll probably grow some other World of Beers at some point — but when we look at this area, we think that we needed to enhance the concept a little bit for the demographic that’s here,” said Darren Greene, co-owner of The District PourHouse.
The new concept pivots from a beer bar to a retro gaming bar, adding five old school video game cabinets, a cozy lounge area with Sega, Ninendo and other classic consoles, plus foosball, jumbo Jenga and cornhole.
That’s not to say the beer is going away from the former World of Beer; the bar will still feature plenty of craft beers on tap and in bottles and cans, supplemented with the addition of more budget-friendly macrobeers.
“While we’ll still have a lot of great crafts — we have 53 taps, most of those will still be devoted to crafts and imports — we’ll have 10 or 12 taps that are more approachable and more affordable beers,” said Greene.
The new cocktail list features a dozen drinks also at more approachable prices ($6-$9), most of which feature local spirits from Middle West Spirits.
The food menu features a familiar lineup of pub food with a few tweaks.
“One thing I’m really excited about is we definitely upgraded our burgers,” said Brian McGlothlin, General Manager for The District PourHouse.
The new burgers feature a seasoned blend of Angus beef, ground chuck and short rib. In addition, five all-beef hot dogs have been added as a lower cost dining option (around $6) for students.
The District PourHouse officially re-opens today, August 16. The bar is located at 1568 N High St on OSU’s campus.
