New Brothers Drake bar opening soon at CoHatch Polaris

Brothers Drake Meadery will soon launch its second Ohio tasting room with the imminent opening of COhatch’s new coworking space slash bar, located in the former home of The Pub at Polaris.

The 8,500 square foot space, which is officially called “COhatch ‘The Pub’ at Polaris,” is divided among private offices, dedicated desks, an indoor/outdoor gaming area, meeting rooms, conference rooms, and a bar, which will open to the public daily at 5pm.

“It’s a unique concept for us because it’s a combination of our normal coworking, office and meeting space, and then at night Brothers Drake will run it as a bar and event space,” said Matt Davis, founder of COhatch, which has opened four other coworking facilities in Central Ohio since 2016.

Davis, along with Brothers Drake owner Oron Benary, said the goal is to bring some of the Short North up to Polaris.

“We saw a pretty good fit between a coworking space and what we have been doing from a philosophy perspective,” said Benary. “We thought it was a cool idea to bring local products to an area of Columbus that is mainly not local.”

The Brothers Drake-run bar will focus on locally-produced products with eight draft lines pouring Ohio craft beer and an emphasis on Central Ohio spirits. The new bar will even bring Brothers Drake’s Short North neighbors Middle West Spirits and North High Brewing along for the ride — their products will be featured, they will host regular tastings and “meet the maker” events in the space, and two of the meeting rooms are even decked out with their branding.

Brothers Drake will also be producing mead on-site with a small production facility about half the size of their Short North location that will churn out around 2,000 gallons of mead annually. Benary says they will focus on barrel aged and experimental small batch meads at the Polaris facility. The Polaris Pub will also continue the meadery’s tradition of offering live music, bringing their popular “Jazz Wednesdays” to the new bar in the form of “Jazz Thursdays” every week from 7-10pm in addition to other regular live performances.

While the Brothers Drake bar at The Pub is still a few weeks away from opening pending a state permit expected to be received by June, the coworking part of COhatch will officially open on May 1.

You can get a sneak preview of the space this weekend at COhatch’s Side Street Festival, which will place Saturday, April 27 from 3-11pm featuring mead from Brothers Drake plus beer from North High, Wolf’s Ridge, Pretentious, Nocterra, Ill Mannered, Platform, Warped Wing and Zaftig. The fest will also feature food trucks Hai Poke, Pink Spoon Meal Prep, Empanadas & More, Cupzilla, Sweet Cheese, Tortilla, Kenny’s Meat Wagon, Cupzilla Korean BBQ, Aloha Streatery, Pitabilities, Clean Juice, and Little Ladies Soft Serve; live music from The Alex Burgoyne Quartet, Al Son Del Lya,and DJ Bohno; and activities for kids from 3-7pm. The event is free to attend with beer tickets available for purchase.

COhatch plans to open more than a dozen total locations in Central Ohio within the next five years, and additional Brothers Drake bars may appear as well.

“As we grow to other locations, [Brothers Drake] feels like they can spread their wings and expand with us,” said Davis.

COhatch ‘The Pub’ at Polaris is located at 1554 Polaris Parkway. More information about their coworking and office space leasing can be found at cohatch.com.
