Columbus Brewing Company taproom opens tonight

The largest brewery in Columbus will open the doors to its much anticipated taproom tonight.

“We know how much our fans have wanted a taproom from us but we’ve wanted it just as much,” said Columbus Brewing Company’s Tony Corder. “It’s taken us a while to get everything lined up with production being our ultimate priority so the taproom had to wait until we were able to do certain things. We also had pretty firm ideas about the small little touches that were important to us.”

Those touches include specialized glassware for the brewery’s various beer styles and a Czech lager faucet that pours a thick, creamy head.

The 4,000 square foot taproom features a retail space upfront for brewery swag and six-packs, a large U-shaped bar with 20 barstools, two- and four-top table seating for about 70 guests, and a small patio that can accomodate another 30 or so.

For tonight’s opening, Columbus Brewing Company will have 21 taps pouring a wide variety of styles.

“It would be really easy for us to open up with 10 IPAs on draft, but it was important to us to show people that we’re much more than just that six-pack on the shelf,” said Corder.

Among the beers featured for the opening are two wood-aged sours: Crocodile Tongue and Somethin’ Tequila; two lagers: a house Pilsner and CBC’s Oktoberfest-style lager Festbier; Pallet Island barrel-aged stout; Brioso Coffee Cream Ale, plus plenty of hop-forward ales and more. And since it’s peak wet hop season, CBC has another half dozen small batch wet hop beers planned to tap throughout the next few weeks. The full opening draft list can be viewed here.

The brewery is currently pending a new liquor license which will allow them to add wine, cider and occasional guest beers to their offerings. They expect approval next month.

The Columbus Brewing Company taproom will be open seven days a week, Monday-Thursday from 3pm-11pm, Friday and Saturday from 11am-12am, and Sunday 11am-10pm. Columbus Brewing Company is located at 2555 Harrison Rd.
