Edison Brewing opens tonight in Gahanna

Central Ohio’s newest brewery features a view of downtown Columbus, an iconic brewer, and a lineup of European lagers.

Edison Brewing officially opens tonight in Gahanna next to the Golf Depot. Even though Edison is located in Gahanna, its location on Franklin Peak, the highest point in the county, provides a picture perfect view of the Columbus skyline.

Perhaps the biggest news is the hiring of Victor Ecimovich III as the Head Brewer. Ecimovich was the inaugural brewer at Chicago’s Goose Island Brewery, brewed at the long gone Hoster Brewery in the early 1990’s, and for years has worked as an international brewery consultant.

Edison features a 10-bbl brewhouse with five 10-bbl fermenters, one 20-bbl fermenter, and room for several more when the time is right. Ecimovich will focus on brewing European lagers, but will mix in some interesting ales as well. While the lineup at Edison on opening day will be all guest beers, expect to see the house beers appear by mid-September. Look for a German Pils, a Vienna Lager, a Dunkel, and a Porter for starters. Coming attractions will be a weizen, a Belgian Ale, and a Kolsch. Something you will not see brewed at Edison is an IPA.

The facility itself is a newly built brick structure that was designed to be reminiscent of an old power station. This is the creation of owner Wil Schulze, a local business man well known in the energy field. The name, Edison, is homage to his contribution to the power industry as well. Besides providing an amazing view, Schulze has put together a lovely 5000 square foot facility with a wrap-around patio, Amish built beams, the requisite flat screen TV’s, and a bright, airy taproom with ample seating.

Signage is not yet in place, so don’t be confused when you pull in the parking lot at 785 Science Blvd, just off Claycraft in Gahanna.

I visited Hoster at least once. If I remember right, that was before I finally found some varieties of beer that taste good to me though. I’ve enjoyed one or two from Goose Island. Love that old train depot at the golf course. Definitely will have to check out Edison once they get their own beers flowing.

We had a great experience at Edison 9/9/2020 for an after work group celebrating a birthday. What a fantastic development and location. I had a chance to speak with the owner and he was there to help. Great atmosphere, and if you like a great view of Columbus, this is it. Sapporo on tap…treat !! I am looking forward to their in house lineup. For now, we have a community gem and good luck to the ownership for years to come. This is one of the best investments to come to Gahanna in years.

Just got back from the Edison. Great selection, friendly staff and the clientele are all friendly and you can start up conversations.
As to the selections, they are great no matter what your preference is.
This is a hidden Jem. We had dinner from the local food truck. A great place to decompress, make new friends or just kick back.
